Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD L118 Transmission, silver rod, levers

Question
I can push the mover when the silver rod  on the back is pushed all the way in. What would make it stay in Neutral. All the levers, springs, and belts are attached. could it be low on fluid or broken gears? Nothing was wrong the last time I used it.

Have you checked that the belts are tight around the pulley's? The transmission may be low on fluid. has it acted weird before all this happened like it would surge or had very little power moving that is a cause for low fluid. John Deere has a lot of different transmissions some you can add fluid some you can not you need to look in the owners manual to see if there is a section on the transmission.
