Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 2 cycle honing, ball hone, light scratches

Question
Thanks for your prior answer saying that the ball hone is best for a 2 cycle, though I know that even with light scratches, a new cylinder might be required in some cases.

I got a little confused, because at the end you seemed to suggest that the ball hone might hang on the ports.

I've seen a video of a 2 cycle being honed with a ball hone and it seemed to go pretty well.

I was more concerned about if you have tried, or if you know whether a typical 3 legged flat stone hone with 2" long stones, will get hung on the ports of a typical 2 cycle cylinder. Is this something you have seen or tried?

Thanks for any followup.

I have used both hones with the ball hone you get a better finish, the straight hone in your case would be fine as you say it just has a few scratches, its not like you are using oversize rings. In our shop we have used both the straight hone is used when we use a oversize piston and rings then we clean it up with the ball hone.getting hung up on the ports is a user problem if you try to do a quick fast job you may get hung up if you are careful then you can make sure that you watch what you are doing.
