Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere z225 starting, engine model type, battery cables

Question
QUESTION: When I attempt to start my zero turn it cranks very slowly and the cables heat up.  I have charged the battery and even jumped it with a spare battery fully charged but to no avail.  It still cranks slowly and will not fire.  Any ideas!  Thanks.

ANSWER: How old is the mower?  If you remove the spark plug(s) will the starter turn the engine fast?

The starter or cables may have an issue or something may be causing the engine from spinning.

Have the valves ever been checked?

Let me know if the starter turns the engine fast with the plug(s) removed.

QUESTION: Yes Eric it cranks faster with the plug removed.  The mower is 3 years old and has 68 hours on it.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
What brand of engine is on the mower?  What is the engine model, type and code/serial number?  How is the oil level?

Have you dis-connected the battery cables and cleaned the battery terminals and cable ends with wirebrush?  I have fixed a lot of starting issues just by cleaning the connections.

Let me know the enigne information so I can look up your engine.
