Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): peerless 205 024c hydro, loose screw, gear oil

Question
i need to know how much oil i need to put in the hydrostatic side and also the drive gear side. is the oil that i need 80w-90w

Answer
That style of Peerless hydro was "REPLACED" by a different design a few years ago.  Peerless offers a bellow kit to replace the fluid inside, with instructions, and you'll need to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS to do it properly and remove ALL air from the case and pump. Part# is 799030, and is around $45 for fluid, new bellows, bellows plate, and tool and screws to R & R these special bellows plate screws

The fluid should be about 3.5 inches from the opening when vertical according to the Peerless hydrostatic manual but the instructions with the new fluid stated to fill the unit to about 1 3/4 inches from the top.  Remove the air by placing a piece of tape on the hole of the plate after compressing the bellows to keep it compressed, install the plate with 3 screws snug and the 4th a litlle loose, remove the tape from hole with the unit vertical with the loose screw at the highest point, fluid comes out of the 4th screw area as the bellows expands internally, tighten 4th screw at that point.

On the differential side, put 8 Oz of Mobil 1 75W-90 Full synthetic or similar gear oil.

Are you just changing the oil for regular maintenance?
