Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD Lawn tractor stops running PTO engaged, john deere lawn tractor, john deere lawn

Question
We have a L120 John Deere lawn tractor. We had to charge the battery then the tractor worked fine. Then proceeded to mow the lawn, engaged the electic PTO( knob in up position) then after about 5 mins of mowing the engine dies out.I then disengaged the PTO (pushed button down) and the tractors engine ran fine. Repeated the same procedure with the same results just after a few seconds. One thing I noticed is the little window with the hours of use disappears after I engaged the mower deck and the engine tries to die out but returns when I disengaged the PTO button. Is this an electricial problem as we always have to jump or charge the battery, I tried a new battery but the same problem occured. Please help as we can not afford to take it to a JD Dealer. I have noticed others online that have the same problem but can not find an answer. Thank you so much for helping.

Answer
What engine is on the mower?  You could have a bad voltage regulator or it could be a bad electric clutch drawiing to  much power.  Do you have a volt or multimeter?

Send me the enigne model, type/spec and code/serial number so I can see what engine you have.
