Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): CCR3650 Single Stage, No oil in Gas??, bank in the sky, compression gauge

Question
Hi Eric,
Quick question if you have a second please...

I ran out of gas last year with this CCR3650, it's approx 6yrs old. While away for business, regular gas was put in the tank and started. My wife quick called me while it was running, I yelled to turn it off but it stopped on its own.
It pulls over just as good as it did before, except it will not start. Has the engine gone to the big snow bank in the sky, or would it be possible to get this repaired? and if so.. any "ball park" questimate on price??

Thanks for your time Eric

Answer
I checked the engine repair manual via Toro's website.  The manual is free:

You will need to input your model.

The engine should have 120-150 PSI of compression.  Checking the compression is a 2 minute job with a compression gauge.  Another option is to remove the muffler and visually inspect the cylinder and piston.  If there are scratches the engine may not be any good.

Are you familar with rebuilding engines?
