Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): LT160 start problems, engine cranks, nam vet

Question
Hi Ben,

My name is Verne and thank you for your service in Vietnam.

I have an LT160 (Deere) about two years old; not much use (about 50 hours if that.)

The model number of the Kohler engine is: CV460s;  spec number is ps 26513. Serial number is: 3212810603

Yes, I have a engine starting issue: Engine cranks and will  not catch. Usual suspects have been checked - spark plug (fine); lines (all clear); fuel filter (clear); fuel pump (operational); choke and choke mechanisms (all appear fine.)

The problem, as best I can tell, is that gas is not getting to the carburetor. I pulled off the float cover, and it is dry; the float appears to be fine; I can't tell if the needle is plugged  on this model without pulling the entire unit off. And even then, I don't have a clue where the needle is; I'm not familiar with this type of carb.

So I am assuming the fuel solenoid is broken.

Would the fuel solenoid - which I assume draws gas in - be the problem, and should I replace? As mentioned, everything else seems fine.

Thanks again for your help.

This mower is as far as the engine is concerned doesn't have a fuel solenoid. If this does have a fuel solenoid the way to make sure it is working this is how you can test.Turn the key to on only do not try to start it,you should hear a click when the key is turned this opens the fuel solenoid, then turn the key to off & you should hear it click close,if you don't hear anything then it is bad.The best bet is to remove the carb and clean it,if you think you wont remember how to put it back together....Take pictures of all the steps a digital camera can be used & when your done just erase the pictures. This way you can see how everything was removed, also take notes so you wont forget.I will attache a carb breakdown it shows a solenoid but there is no part number which means that engine doesn't have one.
