Question
15.0 vanguard ohv engine  m/n246435  type# 0112-B1 code# 09030449
my question is that i removed the carb and cleaned it when i reinstalled it, it runs rough at the set running speed and it has black smoke comming out the exhaust i have a second question when looking at the intake side of the carb there are two screw in jets at the 10 and 2 o'clock position and they are differant sizes can you tell which jet goes where.i suppect that the float is set to high and letting to much fuel enter the intake but this one has a plastic float and non adjustable i really need help on this one cant get it to run steady and set high rpm

The carburetor is running rich which means it is getting too much fuel and not enough air. That's why you have black smoke. The one at the 2 o'clock is the idle screw, the other is the Mixture screw.

I would suggest that you get some SeaFoam and run some of it in your gas mixture before tearing anything down. You could try turning the screw, with the plastic cap on it, counter clockwise as far as it will go and see if that makes a difference.

Just a thought, I think it may have a plastic intake manifold and that there has been some problems with these warping. You could spray some WD40 around the gasket where the Intake Manifold connects to the heads and see if that makes the engine pick up, if so, there is a leak there.
