Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kawasaki FC420C-AS11 (John Deere), spade terminal, question pool

Question
You recently posted a question to BEN in category Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.):

I have a John Deere 48' walk-behind #GX1320X, SN 031196#with a Kawasaki FC420V-AS11 #SN FC420VA63207#.  Unit was running for about an hour and a half, then cut out #no sputter, went from full speed to dead#.  After the unit cooled #several hours#, started right back up then I turned off.  About a week later, I started the engine and let it run.  After about 5' it cut out again #once again, no stalling or sputtering#.  Now It will not start at all and it appears there is no spark.  I replaced igniter, and coil was replaced about two years ago.  I checked the neutral switch #even tried jumping#, but still no spark.  Additional info: Unit has a voltage regulator #4 wires into, then two out to a capacitor#, pull starter only, no electric start.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Answer
The link below will take you to the Workshop Manual:

Look on page 36 for how to test for spark.  One tip to help troubleshoot the problem is to isolate the engine ignition system from the rest of the wiring harness.  You should be able to just unplug one wire, the one connected to the engine shut-off spade terminal, and then check for spark.  This will tell you if the problem is a safety switch issue or an engine ignition switch issue.

Let me know if the manual helps.
