Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler engine, carburetor, air compressor

I have a mower with a 17.5 kohler engine that only runs when the choke is pulled half out. Could you help me?

I would start with the carburetor.  I would remove, dis-assemble, and clean the carb with compressed air from an air compressor and carburetor cleaner.  Blow compressed air through all the carburetor orfices.  The link below will take you to Kohler's website where you can download the service manual.

Will it run with the choke off if the air filter is removed?  DO NOT use the mower with the air filter removed...just see if it will run.
