Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tire replacement, honda hr214, self propelled mower

Question
Hi Doug,
This is a lawnmower related question. I am trying to replace the rubber tire on a Honda HR214 SX self propelled mower. The old tires cracked and fell off. With brute force I am unable to get the tire to fit on the plastic rim. Can I heat the tire (Boiling Water?) or any other method to make it more pliable without ruining it? The tire fits directly over the rim.....no tube. I know this doesn't involve engin repair but I hope you can help.
Thank you,
John

Answer
Try dishsoap around the seal of the tire. It is still going to take quite a bit of force to get it on, but the lubrication from the soap does help. Use a screwdriver and carefully work the tire onto the wheel. Outside of a machine, there really is no "easy" way. Just a lot of patience.
