Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet RTZ50 Replace Engine, engine crankshaft, south west michigan

Question
I have a 2006 RTZ50 With A Kawasaki FH661V 22hp with both connecting rods broken. I would like to replace the engine(Do to time)then rebuild it. My question is, what other engines will fit without too many difficulties? I'm having a tough time locating a used replacement and if I had more options I'm thinking it will make things go a little easier. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thank you,

Answer
Many of the engines will bolt directly to you mower chasis.  The most challenging aspect with installing a different engine is the wiring.  Actually the wiring is easy as all mowers have basic wiring...the challenging part is the connectors; you have have to slice or solder the connects.  An alternate, and quick way to switch the wiring is to use Posi-Lok connectors.

The second challenge is the throttle connection but they are very similar.

Engine manufactures make engines with the same bolt pattern and similar throttle connections so lawn mower manufactures can provide customers with various engine options while keeping the manufacturing costs as low as possible.  The only tooling change for the various engines is the electrical connections...the mower manufacturer just has to use the corrosponding engine manufacturers connectors.

I would recommend measuring the old engine crankshaft to be sure the new engine will accept the PTO or stack pulley.  Again, most of the upper end mower manufactures require the engine manufacturers to use the same crankshaft output...but always measure.

What engine are thinking of using?
