Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): poulan pro 18.5hp 42, little engines, switch connections

Question
QUESTION: i just bought this machine and when I mow with it it starts great and cuts great, but after about an hour of cutting the riding mower stops stops running, it shakes really bad and i have changed the sensor on the seat and also cleaned the carb and new filters and fluids but still does it can u help me understand what part i need to get to fix this

ANSWER: Have you replaced the spark plugs?   Have you removed the top of the engine shroud and inspected the engine cooling fan and cooling fins to make sure they are clean?  If the fins are clogged the engine may over head.

Let me know what you find.

QUESTION: spark plug was changed and the fan is clean but still does it could it be some sort of sensor that would make it do that

Answer
There aren't too many sensors on those little engines.  Do you know if your engine has a low oil sensor?  The oil sensor is an option on many engines, some have them install, some do not.

I have had safety switch connections cause problems like you described.

The engine should only have a few wires;  starter, spark plug, alternator (2-3 wires), shut-off wire, carburetor fuel shut-off solenoid.  Can you identify the alternator wires?  Do you have a carburetor solenoid...there will be a wire or two running to the carburetor.

Let me know.
