Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): stihl 260 chainsaw, air leak, rubber hose

Question
i have a stihl 260 and it was running perfect and jsut decided to shut down one day. i went throught the carb, ignition coil, all is well. compression on a gauge is 90#  i took the muffler off to get a peek at the piston and seems ok i gave it a pull and it fires up and runs. when i try to put the muffler back on it dies before i even get it to make contact with the mounting piece. the screen is clean and there is nothing blocking the airflow. whats does this mean? any ideas?

If the muffler is affecting the engine ,then you have intake problem what happens there is a air leak some where causing a neg pressure the carb has all kinds of gaskets or breather hose or the carburetor not sitting correctly on the engine.Check for cracks when you look around At the rubber hose may  have a leak, chainsaw oil after a while gets in between stuff and either break or push the seals to let more air in thats needed. Check lines and air filters.and other places air can get sucked in the engine.
