Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S no spark, starter relay, stator

Question
QUESTION: I have a troy built m#13AQ609G063 that came with a B&S m#42A707 T#2238E1. History: With difficulty starting the engine I replaced the starter relay. I didn't ground it correctly and went through a lot of fuses before I got it right (I Think). Eventually I replaced the starter and really think that was the main problem to begin with. Along the way I completely removed the wiring harness and put it back in. I am able to get the mower to turn over but not start. I do not seem to have any spark. I am not able to measure any voltage on single yellowish wire that appears to go to the coil. I am not able to measure any voltage on the pair of wires going to the Stator. The test were conducted both attempting to start and static. The PTO and Brake switches will prevent the mower from turning over. The seat switch seams to make no difference but I did try it with no change. the battery is now dead so I am jump starting it with the seat up so no contact. I did run the mower for some time with seat switch removed and no other problem. I am no longer blowing fuses. I use the key to turn the engine over. All 4 switches are installed. I do see trace voltages on the 3 wires that go to the coil and stator. I hope I have correctly identified the wires and there purpose.

ANSWER: NO POWER to the coil...NO POWER to the stator...power comes from the stator.

Dis-connect all the small wire from the ignition module and test for spark.

Let me know is you have spark with the small wire dis-connected.

QUESTION: I am not sure what the ignition module is, or where it is located. I am aware of the starter relay under the seat, the 4 switches, the key switch, a small wire does go to the engine timer from the starter but not where the ignition module is. Thank you

ANSWER: If you remove the top engine shroud you will see the ingnition module(s).  Dis-connect the small wire connected to the coil and check for spark.

QUESTION: With the small wire disconnected. I am still not able to generate any spark. The gap on the coil was very close. I tried to move it out some but same results. I don't have a feeler gage but sure there is a setting there that should be checked, I am sure I will need a feeler gage to install a new one. The last time this mower was started, I put power directly on the starter. to shut it off at that time I had to pull off the spark plug wires. Thanks for staying with me.

Answer
Do you one ignition module with 2 spark plug wires?

Use a business card or match book cover to gap the coil.

If you have the single module, with 2 spark plug wires and one small wire, with the small wire disconnected and you have no spark then the coil is bad...99% of the time.  Is the coil installed correctly?  Seen folks install them upside down.
