CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME CORRECT CRANK TO CAM TIMING PROCEDURE FOR BRIGGS 14 HP MODEL 287707 TYPE 1235-EI CODE 9806292D PLEASE.HAVE SPLIT ENGINE AND SET GEAR MARKS TOGETHER BUT DO NOT CORRESPOND TO TDC. THANKS.

Before I fully assemble the lower engine case/sump I always spin the engine by hand and follow the engine strokes to make sure the timing is correct.  One tell tale sign of correct timing is checking for valve overlap.  Valve overlap exists on all 4 cycle engines.  Sometimes it is difficult to see the overlap but you can usually spin the valves by hand to verify.  Valve overlap will occur every other stroke when the piston is at TDC.
