Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): blade brake clutch removal on johnder14sb, air impact wrench, john deere dealer

Question
QUESTION: how do i REMOVE the Blade BRAKE Clutch on a john deere 14sb mower, please, any help is appreciated thanks

ANSWER: Remove blade bolt and blade.  The clutch is supposed to pull/slide off the crankshaft but odds are it is rusted a bit and really stuck to the shaft.

I have used a slide hammer to held loosen really stuck BBC (Blade Brake Clutch).  How old is the mower?

Answer
Yes, it is tough to remove the allen head screw.  How we do it...1/2 air impact gun...and it takes some power.

Other option you have is to remove the starter and try holding the flywheel nut with a wrench to keep the crank from spinning.  If that does not work you can remove the top engine shroud and coil.  Then use a strap wrench to hold the flywheel.  Last option, and would not recommend, is to fill the cylinder with oil and hydro-lock the cylinder...very, very messy and the engine will smoke for a while until all the oil burns out.

I'd recommend finding a friend with an air compressor and an air impact wrench to remove the bolt.
