Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): How to remove the pump shaft from a tuff torq k 71, john deere gt235, tuff torq

Question
I have a 1999 John Deere gt235 with a tuff torq k 71 transmission. The cooling fan and pulley were very loose, after removing them I noticed that the splines on the shaft were gone. The shaft needs replaced so I removed the seal, a large snap ring then a small snap ring and I am now at the bearing. The bearing looks good but I can not get it out and the shaft will not pull out. Am I missing something or do I need some sort of puller?

Answer
I would not weld it on as the heat transfer from the shaft may distort some of the components inside the transmissin.  JB weld it????  Heat most certainly will destroy the seals.

Once u warp or distort your swash plates its total replacement of rebuild time.

You will need to disassemble the transmission to replace the input shaft as the gear inside is held on with a pin.  Replace fluid with 5w50 synthetic.  This is a common problem we see in the shop.

Hope this helps
