Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): the threads on the end of the crankshaft, tecumseh engine, crankshaft

Question
After working on my Tecumseh engine, I replaced the flywheel. i then attempted to replace the nut and I can't get it started. I'm guessing I messed up the threads on the end of the crankshaft and i have no idea how to fix it.

Answer
There are several different tools you can use to re-thread or clean the threads.  You can use a die to clean the threads or you can use a thread file to clean the threads.  The thread file is much cheaper and more versitile but not as precise as a die.

The dies can be pretty expensive, $20-50.  It may be cheaper to take the engine/mower to a local machine shop and have them clean the threads.  If they have the correct die, which they should, it should only take them 10 minuetes to do the work, including 5 minutes to complete paperwork.
