Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snowblower, craftsman snowblower, ring gears

Question
Hi I have an older Craftsman snowblower. It is a 8hp Tecumseh and 25" cut. The problem I'm having is that it won't move forward unless I give it a push. But if I lift the back end up before pushing it both wheels are turning. It moves in reverse no problem just going forward it acts up. The model of my snowblower is C950-52677-8. The belts and cables are adjusted to the manuals specs.  Would you have any idea what could be wrong.
Thanks

Answer
Hello Trevor:

>>From your Description it Sounds like the Worm and Ring Gears in the Transmission are Worn and Require Replacing.
>>When the Worm (aks; Pinion Gear) and the Ring Gear Wear on the Forward Side the Gears will Bind and cause the  Belt to Slip.
>>The Push gives Enough Initial Thrust to Prevent this Binding and the Unit Pulls Correctly.
>>The Wear is On the Forward Side of the Wear Surfaces, so Reverse is Not Effected.
>>According to the Model Numbers, this Unit was Manufactured by Laser (Case) (V-Tech).
>>I have Contacted Case and they will be Contacting me within 72 Hours with The Information I Require (Hopefully) from them in Order to Give you Another Possible Cause for this Problem.
>>Usually a Slipping Belt, Disc (Driven) or a Bad Drive Disc are the Most Common Cause for this Probelm.
>>If you have Not gotten a Follow Up Response from Me by Tuesday, Please Send a Follow Question to Remind me.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
