Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Manual for Lawn Chief 4-36516X57, engine model type, true value hardware

I have been looking everywhere online for a manual for this tractor. I cannot seem to find anything about this model number at all. It is a Murray tractor sold as a Lawn Chief. Would there be a Murry model that is the same tractor that I could find a manual for? The tractor has 11/36 labels on the fenders and has a variable drive lever arm on the right hand side. It is a 11HP Briggs and 36" deck. It has a 3-speed Peerless 723 transmission and a separate transaxle.

Answer
You best bet is to try your local True Value hardware store.  The mower was made by Murray-
Ohio equipment co but branded and sold under Cotter & Co, aka, Lawn Chief.  That mower is at least 20 years old and suspect older than that.

You can also search online antique message boards; post a message for old Murray manuals and see if anyone has anything.  To my knowledge, Murray only published an owern's manual and parts diagram;  they did not produce a service manaul.  For service information, Murray (Lawn Chief) dealers had to attend an annual servie school update...a one day course usually held in the winter.

Can you send me the engine model, type and code number so I can get a rough age of the mower.  I may be able to use this info to help trackdown a Murray model number.

What specifically are you needing for the mower?
