Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snow thrower engine wont stop!, craftsman snow thrower, recoil starter

Question
Craftsman snow thrower (electric and recoil starter) 247.88640, with Tecumseh engine (Craftsman # 143.045001).
Runs OK, but engine won't stop using run/stop lever and/or pulling key.  Finally "choked" it to death.
Would like ideas and wiring diagram for trouble shooting.
Thanks.

Answer
Hello Walt:

>>Remove the Blower Housing and Look at the Coil/Engine Shut Off Wire End.
>>Is the Wire Still Attached to the Coil Terminal?
>>If No, then
>>Reconnect the Shut Off Wire and the Engine will then Shut Off as Designed.
>>If the Wire is Connected, then
>>Disconnect the Wire End for the Coil Terminal and Clean this Connection with Spray Contact Cleaner, Emory Cloth (440 Grit Sand Paper will Work also) or with a Small Wire Brush.
>>Check the Shut Off Wire for a Break between the Coil Terminal and the Shut Off Switch at the Engine of Ign Switch if Applicable.
>>If this Engine has the Shut Off Switch at the Engine Control Bracket, and the Wire is Good with a Clean Connection at the Coil, then
>>Replace the Shut Off Switch.
>>If you Purchase the New Switch, you should be Able to See How the Old 1 is Removed and the New 1 Pushes into Place.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/parts.html and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers . Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
