Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): adding a light to a troy-bilt 2410, correct lighting, wire colors

Question
I just bought a 2410 snow thrower & I would like to add a set of LED lights to it.
The manual doesn't give a good details as far as if the thrower has a stator/generator or not. It does have both electric & manual start. Also the LED lights would be 12v DC current & I've read somewhere that stators/generators put out AC current & need to be covernted to DC is this true? If this unit has a stator on it where would it be located?
Thanks

Answer
There should be a wire that is coming out of the engine.  Your engine may have a set of wires 1 red and 1 black. Be careful when identifying wire colors as they often get painted black when the engine is manufactured...use a knife and gently scrape the outside of the wire shielding to remove any paint.  Put a voltage tester on the wires when it is running see if you have 12 Volts DC.  If you have voltage then you can install a DC light or LED...it will have to be the same voltage as the output of the engine.  Check by the flywheel shroud if you see a single wire hanging out there that isn't attached to anything thats for an AC light. The light runs on AC current and there is no battery required. Most snowblower motors come with an AC lighting coil now, but if yours didn't then just go down with the model and serial number of the motor not the snowblower and buy the correct lighting coil and light and your done.

Looking online at a Troy-bilt Storm 2410, I see there is an optional ligh kit.  Have you checked with your local dealer to see if they have the light kit in stock?
