Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh starter cup, ariens snowblower, recoil starter

Question
QUESTION: I have a Tecumseh H-70-130266L engine on an Ariens snowblower.  When I went to pull on the starter handle today, something snapped, and the recoil starter won't turn the engine over.  I took the recoil starter off, and the starter cup appears cracked in a couple of places.  There was also a small spring lying inside the starter cup, (which I have no idea where it goes).  After looking at the recoil starter and the starter cup, is the starter cup all that is needed to repair my starter?

ANSWER: Hello Randy:

>>The Starter Cup (Tecumseh Part #32125) should be the Only Replacement Part you Require if the Spring has Not been Damaged.
>>The Spring is Most Likely the Starter Dawg/Tang Spring that is Under the Metal Cap the Holds the Recoil Starter Pulley into the Recoil Starter Housing.
>>Can you Send me a Picture of this Spring so I can be Sure I am Thinking of the Correct Style Recoil Starter for this Unit, Please.
>>The Manual and Online Manual Do Nor Show which Style Recoil Starter is on this Engine.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers . Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing.
>>Thanks.

QUESTION: John,

Unfortunately, I've lost the spring.  I've attached an image of the inside of the recoil starter--it looks as if something is broken there also, but I never found a part that looked like it came from there.

Answer
Hello Again Randy:

>>Thanks for the Picture.
>>Ouch!!
>>One of the Starter Tangs/Dawgs is Missing and the Starter Pulley Requires Replacing.
>>After Viewing the Breakdown for this Engine, I See the Recoil Starter is Offered as a Complete Assembly (part # 590604).
>>The Spring is Most Likely the Tang/Dawg Spring.
>>Your Local Small Engine Service Center Might be Able to Assist you in Purchasing Just the Lost Tang/Dawg, Spring, Pulley and Any Other Parts that Are Required.
