Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): red hot exhaust, sears craftsman, craftsman snowblower

Question
i have a sears craftsman snowblower model c459-52130, my problem is that it's worked fine this year for about 5 times and now with full throttle you can hear it backfire and the exhaust got red hot and i could see in the exhaust it was burning red, like charchoal.also sparks were flying out of the exhaust. i had this blower serviced 2 years ago with a new carb, exhaust belts and flywheel. could it be time to hand it in?

Answer
I believe the link below is your snowblower.

You snowblower is running really lean, not enough fuel, valves out of adjustment, possible leaking head gasket or a sheared flywheel key.  The head gasket and key are not likely but possible so I would start with the carb.

This link describes how to adjust the carb, and if necessary, how to rebuild the carb as well as how to check/adjust the valves.

Browse through the egnine service manual for the carb adjustment and valve check procedure.

Let me know if this helps.
