Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): HSK 50 Carb rebuild, carburetor body, brass washers

Question
QUESTION: I have a Tecumseh HSK 50 Engine on an Ariens 5 HP Snow Blower. It uses a p/n 67244f or Oregon repl #31840 carb kit.   Originally, engine would not run without choke closed, so I decided to rebuild carb.  What I didn't know was that there are 2 small brass washers and 2 ea small o-rings that I don't know where they go.  Of course, the o-rings got enlarged as soon as they hit the carb cleaner. Also, it has a metal needle and from what I can see, it is metal to metal, but then again, there are a couple of small "seats" that came with the kit. What I need, is a parts diagram of this carb.  Can you either furnish or steer me to a web site that has it.

ANSWER: Hello Gordon:

>>I Require the OEM (Walbro, Zama, ect) and the Model Numbers Off the Carburetor. With these I can Locate a Breakdown of the Carburetor and Better Assist you.
>>The Actual Carburetor OEM has the Breakdown you Require and the Equipment OEM does Not Show a Breakdown of this Carburetor.
>>However, the 2 Small O-rings are Placed onto the Mixture Screws After the Spring and a Brass Washer are Placed over the Adjustment Screw.
>>The Brass Washers are Placed Between the O-ring and Spring.
>>The O-rings Provide a Seal for the Screws.
>>The Metal Needle is the Carburetor Needle Control Valve and 1 of the Seats is Placed into the Carburetor Body where the Gas Inlet is Located.
>>The Metal Needle Seats Against this and Stops the Gas Flow into the Carburetor Bowl during Operation.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck

>>Go to this Site Addy; http://www.emerichsales.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx and Select Tecumseh Power Company in the Parts Search Box. Then Select Carburetor Parts. Now Select the CA-630901 Carburetor.

Answer
Hello Again Gordon:

>>Thanks for the Comments and Ratings.
>>You Might Require the Procedure for Setting the Mixture Screws.
>>The Following is the Instruction File for Setting the Air Mixture Screws. Any Input is Appreciated. The Procedure is the Same for 1 or 2 Mixture Screws, Just Use the Instruction File and Skip Over the Section with the Missing Mixture Screw ( Usually the H Mixture Screw).
>>Now Setting the Air Mixture Screws:
>>****Turn the Idle Air (L) and Main Air (H) Mixture Screws In Until SNUG **Do Not Jam** Then Reverse Both Screws 1 1/2 Turns. Set the Throttle Full Open, Start the Engine.
>>Turn the Main Air (H) Mixture Screw Clockwise Until Proper Revs are Obtained. **Carefully Use your Finger and Move the Governor Arm to Rev the Engine (on Chainsaws and Trimmers Use the Trigger to Rev the Engine) Until you Reach Max RPMs (on Chainsaws and Trimmers, the RPMs are Not Set to MAX. Set to Max and then Reverse the Setting Screw 1/4 or 1/2 Turn. If the H Mixture Screw is Set too High; the Engine will be Starved for the Oil in the Gas and Damage the Piston and Jug/Cylinder) and the Engine is Running Proper at Full Throttle Up a Grade and for Chainsaws and Trimmers they Do Not Bog Down Under a Load. Occasionally you May have to Turn this Counter Clockwise to Achieve the Proper Revs.**
>>Now Allow the Engine to Idle. Set the Engine Idle Screw (Not Idle Air) so the Engine will Stay Running if Required.
>>Now Set the Idle Air (L) Mixture Screw so there is No Hesitation when Rapidly Throttling from Idle to Full Throttle. Reset the Engine Idle if Required.****
>>Have a Happy Holiday Season.
>>Till Next Time. May All Your Mechanical Problems be SMALL ONES and as Always, May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy.

Best Wishes and Good Luck
