Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Koler engine, hp sounds, intake leak

The exhaust on my engine gets red hot also engine is back
firing
kohler 17.5 hp

Answer
Sounds like it is running very, very lean.  Is there an intake leak?  Have you checked the valve clearances?

Did you go to Kohler's website and download your service manual?  Kohler manuals are available for free via there website...I have yet to find a Kohler manual you could not download.
