Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): toro lawn mower, safety cable, safety bar

Question
the mower does not stop for 15-20 seconds after I release the safety bar.  It will
sputter for a while then stop.  I have replaced the spark plug and air filter.  What
else can I do?

Answer
Bob,
First remove the engine cover and look to see if the kill switch is fully engaging as you release the handle. If not you can adjust it with a slight bent to make sure that when you release brake handle the subsequent connection to the switch is true. Additionally, ensure that the safety cable is sufficiently moving the spring attached to kill switch plate and the brake actually engages the engine. Check the cable and spring that it controls down where it meets the flywheel brake on the side of the engine. If either is faulty it will not properly set the kill switch/ brake and the engine will continue to run.Let me know if you have further issues.
