Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 18hp kohler, pinion gear, gumption

Question

the starter needs to get rebuilt with a new pinion gear. The gear should pop out even if there is nothing there. Also it may be the battery doesn't have enough gumption to throw the solenoid of the starter into the flywheel, so it's not fully engaged. What happens if you jump start it? The pinion gear/assy that engages the starter gear to the flywheel probably needs to be replaced. You will need to remove the starter to perform this repair. Kits to repair should be available locally or try sears.com to order.
