Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): scag problem starting, safety switches, kohler engines

Question
I have a 61 in scag with a 22cv kohler engine and some time it is hard to get the solenoid to engage the starter. When the key is turned to start, what is sent out from the switch. batt or gnd

Answer
Most kohler engines are started by a positive charge from the ignition to the solenoid through the "ignition wire". You also have safety switches that have to be satisfied for the power to get to the solenoid, although I have never worked on a Scag and am not familiar with their wiring arrangements.
