Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs&Stratton 12.5 engine ring gear, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I am replacing a ring gear on my Rally Ring mower, which has a12.5 Briggs& Stratton engine, Model #289707 Type0179-01, Serial #960524ZB.My question is that the replacement ring gear came with 4 bolts and 4 selflocking nuts as well as a 1/8" split pin. The old ring gear was held on with 4 rivets and I replace them with the 4 bolts that came with the new ring gear, but I do not know where the split pin should go? Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Carl

Answer
Hello Carl:

>>Some Flywheels are Designed with a Pin and the Rivets and Others have No Pin.
>>A Pin is Also used to Center the Flywheel Magnet on Some Model Engines.
>>I Looked at the Breakdown for this Engine and the Pin is Not Used on the Flywheel Starter Ring for this Engine.
>>The Pin is a Standard Item in Most of the Ring Gear Kits.
>>Simply Replace the Rivets with the Bolts and make Sure they are Tightened Securely.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select "Click Here For The Parts Menu". Then Select B. Then Select "Click Here If You Don't Have Your Part Numbers". Now Select the File #28 (using the first 2 Numbers of your Model Number) for your Model. Now Select the Folder #289700 to View the Breakdown of this Engine.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
