Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Johnd Deere LX178 - pulley from drive shaft

Question
I am replacing the engine in my JD LX178.  All I have left is removing the pulley's and clutch from the drive shaft - managed to get the bottom bolt removed, but if feels like the pulleys may be pressed on - they aren't sliding off and I'm giving her all I got.  Does this require a puller or am I missing something?  THANKS

Answer
Hello Lincoln:

>>If I Understand you Correctly you are Asking How to Remove the Engine Drive Pulley that Pulls the Belts.
>>Soak the Crankshaft with Liquid Wrench and make Sure the Liquid Wrench can Flow Down the Crankshaft into the Area between the Pulley and Crankshaft.
>>Rust Between the Crankshaft and Pulley and Crankshaft Key is the Reason for the Pulley being Hard to Remove.
>>Sometimes After the Liquid Wrench has been Used and the Pulley will Still Not Move, then Heat is Required and even then you May Damage the Pulley and it will have to be Replaced anyway.
>>I Usually Attach a Puller to the Pulley and Apply a Small Amount of Pressure (not enought to bend the pulley but enough to be useful) and then Heat and Lightly Tap the Center of the Pulley.
>>Before Placing the Pulley onto the New Engine, Lightly Coat the Crankshaft with Never Seize. This Prevents Rust Build up and makes the Pulley Slide Off as Designed if it has to be Removed again.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. *You can Drag the View Windows for Better Viewing.*
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
