Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Follow up, premature failures, 99ers

Question
QUESTION: When I clicked to ask for a follow up, it said I need to ask a new question. So, I checked the idler pulley and the sound seems to be coming from it. It doesn't feel loose or wobbly. If the pulley isn't wobbly, can it still be bad? It only makes the noise when I engage it. Thank You and the same regards to you, Marty

ANSWER: Just because the pulley isn't wobbling, it can still have a bad spot in the bearing causing a roaring sound. I'm really not sure what your original question was, I hope this helps.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: John, I'm sorry I asked you about my Poulan Pro tractor and the sound it was making from the idler pulley. When I asked to do a follow up question, I didn't know that it wouldn't be connected to my other questions. It appears the pulley is plastic and the replacement is steel.Thank You once again and when I did the evaluation, I stated high regards for your help and said I would definitely ask you for help again. I'm one of the 99ers. Being unemployed and trying to save money doing repairs, your assistance helped greatly. Bless you and your family, Marty

Answer
I appreciate your getting back with me, I don't really know how the follow up system works, but I tried to answer the best I could, and it looks like you found what you needed. Some of the manufacturers switched these pulleys to steel after having premature failures with the plastic ones. God bless you .
