Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Swapping engine, assembly drawings, series tractor

Question
QUESTION: Changing 20hp Kawasaki FD620D-AS17 to 27hp Kawasaki FD750D-S01.
I want to put the 27 hp in a 98 Toro 5lxi series tractor. Motor is in place
but I'm wondering how to make the electrical harness or do you know
what the motor was originally in to swap harness too. I bought the engine
used from a person who doesn't know the original machine it came out of.

>>After looking at Both the Engines Electrical Schematics and the Tractors Schematics, it seems they use the Same Stator/Charging Coils, Voltage Regulators and the Connectors look to be the Same.
>>You should have Little to No Problem Swapping this Engine.

fd620d electrical sche
QUESTION: Hello John
Here is the schematic for the existing 20 hp fd620d that I pulled out. The regulator is left behind after removal of the engine and the fd750d engine also contains the regulator, so you end up with two regulators due to the existing wiring harness in the tractor. The other difference is the fd620d uses an ignitor and the fd750 doesn't. I have the schematic for the fd750 if you need it. It seems there is a little reworking of wiring I just cant figure out what that is yet. Whats your thoughts? Is contact by phone allowed?

Thank You

Todd Christopherson

Answer
Hi Todd:

>>If you Wish me to Contact you, you can Send me a New E-Mail Question Marked Private and Include a Contact Phone Number.
>>As I have come to Understand, a Question Marked Private is Between you and I and No One Else will see it.
>>This Schematic Shows an Igniter in the System for this (fd620) Engine.
>>If there is No Igniter, then Wiring the New Engine for the Igniter is Simple Also.
>>It is a Matter of Locating and Connecting the Correct Hot Wire for the Ignitor.
>>I will Use this Schematic and the FD750 Schematic and Write up some Instructions During the Day Today and try to have them Sent to you by Tomorrow at the Latest.
>>Thanks.

Hi Todd:

>>I Did Not Rec your Contact Info so I Sent you Mine.
>>In Case my Contact Number does Not go through, I am Sending you this E-Mail with an Attached Breakdown of the FD620D Engine and the FD750D Engine will Follow in a Seperate E-Mail.
>>Look them Over and make Sure we are Talking about the Same Engines and Our Breakdowns are the Same.
>>According to my Breakdowns the 750 does Not have an Igniter and the 620 Does.
>>If this is Correct, then
>>you have to Locate the Ground when in the Off Position Lug of Ign Switch. **This Lug is Not Grounded when in the On, Run or Start Positions.
>>The Ign Coils of the FD750D-S01 are Grounded to Stop the Firing of the Plugs.
>>We can Discuss the Charging Coils/Stator if the Above is Correct.
>>As Always, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
