Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No spark to sparkplug., switch problem, safety switch

I have a Yardman zero turn about 3 years old. It has a 17HP Tecumseh OHV engine that gets no spark coming to the Plug wire. Does this engine have points or is it solid state. Also would you replace the coil first when troubleshooting this problem. I appreciate any help with this.

The only engines you will find points on are from the 70's so I doubt yours has any, if I was testing this, I would remove the wire hooked to the coil and then test the spark. If  you still have no spark then it's time to replace the coil, if you do get spark, you have a safety switch problem.
