Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): weed eater, exhaust port, plenty of power

Question
I have a weed eater model xt-50, whipper snip that is fairly difficult to start but
once started runs fine for about 10 minutes with plenty of power etc. Then it
stops and is impossible to re-start until the next day. Spark plug is clean.
I also have the complete engine from a weed eater GTI- 15T. Are the parts
interchangeable?

Answer
Both are pretty old trimmers but both were good models.  The carb, ignition coil and muffler might interchage...it's been too many years for me to remember.

On the XT, start by checking the compression.  You need at least 90 PSI.  Next, check the muffler and exhaust port to make sure they are clean.  Check the cylinder jug screws to make sure they are tight.  Has the carburetor ever been overhauled?  No matter what I would replace the spark plug with a new one.

Let me know how much compression the XT has and if the carb has ever been overhauled.
