Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): briggs &stratton model number 31m444-0234e1, briggs stratton, crankcase breather

I changed the reed on the crankcase breather while assembling the engine i set the airgap at .010". when i tried to start the the engine it ran than back fired (very loud) all it does now is back during strt up
