Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman push lawnmower/Briggs &Stratton Engine, briggs stratton engine, briggs and stratton

Question
I have a 5.0 horsepower Craftsman rotary lawnmower.
Model #917377520.Yes it is old - purchased in 1998-minus this problem - still runs efficiently.
It is a 4 cycle Briggs and Stratton engine - Model No. 12H802 Type NO. 1978-E1
The starter rope is broken. Is it possible to take the rewind starter housing off or is it a matter of taking much more off? Is the starter housing riveted in? This is what I was told by a neighbor.I truly know little to nothing about lawnmower repair, so any correct parts labeling on my part came from my owner's manual.Any help you may offer is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

If this cover has rivets you must drill them out and replace them with new bolts and nuts,When installing the new rope, watch out for the spring,if it unwinds you will have a time getting back together. Here is the pictures of the recoil starter.
