Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Shredding Trans Belt Scotts S1642, scotts s1642, deere dealer

Question
Can you help me identify what the problems is with my S1642 where the trans belt is shredding after only 5-10 hours of operation. the machine is 10 years old and this starting happening just during this cutting season. I replaced the belt, then Deere dealer replaced it the second time and changed pulley on top of trans whish he said was causing the belt to shred. Thanks so much for your help

Answer
Generally speaking, when you have a belt that is shredding it's usually caused by a pulley being out of line or debris stuck in a pulley. If the pulley is out of line it can cause the belt to ride on the edge and this will wear the edge of the belt and can cause shredding.
