Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Weed Eater GBI 22V, exhaust ports, bubble gum

Question
I have an older model gas blower (Weed Eater GBI 22V).  I am trying to get it to run more smoothly.  I replaced the spark plug and fuel line, and cleaned the air filter.  The blower will start but it hesitates at times, stops running at times, and generally doesn't seem to blow air at maximum capacity.  It also has a tendency to smoke from the exhaust occasionally.  Is there anything that I can do to make it run more smoothly?  Thanks a lot for your willingness to help!

Answer
remove the muffler and make sure the exhaust ports are clean.  make sure you have fresh fuel from the pump to rule out any old stale fuel problems.  Check your fuel filter and your fuel lines to make sure they are in good shape.  Based on what your telling me it sounds like you have a fuel restriction.  Are your fuel lines still firm?  If they Are like bubble gum its time to replace them

And I would consider a complete carb rebuild.  BUT check the price on replacement vs repair.  Some carbs are cheaper the the repair kits!
