Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): no spark on 12 HP Briggs and Stratton, briggs and stratton, hp briggs

Ariens 935 series 38" riding mower  Model no.935020 serial no 003162
Serial no. for the 12 HP briggs and Stratton engine  is 000101 and up.
I cant get spark.  Changed the coil, had worked intermittenly then stopped.  WHat else can I check to get this running again? Thank you for your input.  Drivng me crazy  Al

OK so you changed he coil and it is still doing the same thing.Some where you have a short in the ignition circuit.What you can do is remove the ground wire from he coil as that is what shuts off the engine. Make sure the wire doesn't touch any ground on the engine. Then try to start if it starts then the wire is shorted somewhere,if it doesn't start check for a bad spark plug or a bad coil you can get new ones that are bad.Now if the engine starts with he coil ground the engine will run and the only way to shut it off is to take the wire you removed from the coil ground and ground it out again.if that shuts the engine down go look for another coil as the one you got maybe bad.
