Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Head gaskets, head gaskets, cereal box

Question
Hi John, My son asked me if there was any way to make a head gasket for a lawnmower.  My answer: I made a head gasket for a Craftsman Air Compressor from a cereal box and it has been working for two years.  However, there would be a huge heat difference here.  If you don't have access to a factory gasket, can you make one from a cereal box or some other material such as roof flashing which he said he has done, but hasn't tried yet?
What do you think?  I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes you gotta do whatcha gotta do.
Thanks,
Gene

Answer
Hello Gene:

>>This Question brings back Memories from Long, Long ago. LOL.
>>I used to Make Head Gaskets from Roof Flashing that I Folded Over 8 or 9 Times and then Cut the Gasket.
>>It Did Work for about 6 Times Cutting Grass and then it gave Out.
>>I Did Coat the Head Gasket on Both Sides with Indian Head Gasket Sealer and it Took me Forever to Remove the Flashing Gasket when I was Ready to Replace it with a Real Head Gasket.
>>I haven't Done this in Years (30yrs) and I am Not Sure if it will Work with Today's Engines.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
