Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler 12.5 hp runs, then dies, wire harness, spark plug

Question
My Kohler CV14S engine starts when it is cold everytime. It will run from 15 min to 60 min and then die. I have to wait several hours and it will then start. I have voltage getting to the ignition module. I don't see spark at the plug Why does it run for a while and then die? Something heating up, then breaking down?

Answer
It could be the coil heating up and breaking down.  Did you replace the spark plug?  Once method to verify the coil is to dis-connect the coil shut-off wire from the coil when the engine is hot.  This will isolate the mower wire harness from the coil.

When the engine refuses to start, remove the top engine shroud to access the ignition coil.  Dis-connect any wires, usually one small wire (kill wire), from the coil and check for spark.
