Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower deck, john deere 170, cotter pin

QUESTION: i found a spring under the mower adjustment plate that was loose. i cant find where the other end of the spring hooks to.its extension spring # 28. i have looked in the parts book, it shows the spring,but not what it hooks to.thanks for help. Gary

QUESTION: Sorry,i guess that info is important. its a john Deere 170 with a 38 inch deck. the numbers under the are unreadable.the spring is located under the adjustment plate. its listed in the seat and fender section of the parts book. spring #28. its listed as a extension spring. Thanks Gary

QUESTION: one end was hooked to the fender. other side was hanging loose.its under the adjustment plate. thanks gary
