Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Charging System Briggs & Stratton, john deere riding lawnmower, briggs stratton

Question
HI , I have John Deere Riding lawnmower , and its doesn't stay charged , When i charge the battery it works great for a few hours but then if i shut off the blades they wont start back up and sometimes if its run long enough they shut off there selfs and wont start back up ,and if i turn off the motor it wont restart , Today when the blades stopped, I shut it off and now it wont do anything its totally dead and I notice the fuse was blown and when i try too replace the fuse it just sparks and will blow it again , I took it too a shop last yr they replaced the battery it ran great for a few weeks  but now i guest the battery lost it natural charge and i have too use a battery charger too start it every time, I think it might be the voltage regulator , I went out too get the  serial # and notice what i think is the voltage regulator the black plastic it melted . I hope this is enough info .Thanks very much
