Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): HELP!!!, engine technician, mess on your hands

Question
i have a 214 john deere it has a kohler motor on it
model # k321AQS
spec # 60270
serial # 7026415
i think it is a carburetor problem and i was wondering how to adjust it  my son thought he could do it and messed it all up there  is 3 screws on it 1 on top 2 on side he also turned the bar on top that is hooked to the motor
now the motor is revving up and down up and down i get it smoothed out then i pull down the throttle and it don't slow down the motor or it will be slow and smooth then i rev it up and it gets jumpy again

Before the carburetor was played with

when i am cutting the grass the rider will be working fine then just out of the blue it will want to stall if i stop the pto and slow down the motor as soon as it starts it will smooth out then when i rev it back up i have to go real slow or it will just start to stall again and the weird thing is i am not even in long grass

please help

Answer
You my friend have a mess on your hands...you will need to do a static gov adjustment first and then adjust the carb.

There is no way I can walk you through this on this forum, I can however give you a link to the Kohler service manual that will give you step by step instructions.

FWIW...35 years ago I took my dads lawn mower engine apart...its still in a box in pieces in the shed! LOL   I think you have a future Small Engine Technician in the making....
