Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy-bilt drive train., question pool, ride on mowers

Question
I just replaced all the belts on a 2007 Troy-Bilt Pony because I was having trouble going up hill. The lawnmower wouldn't even pull in lower gears.   At first I would be OK if I got a running start at the hill but in the end it just would not pull. I could smell the belts slipping
After I replaced the belts, I tried to pull up a hill and it seems that I still have a problem with the belt or belts slipping and I could smell the smell from the belts slipping. Is there any adjustment or do I have smome other problem that doesn't seem to be apparent to me.  What I have read about the Troy-Bilt doesn't give me a good fuzzy feeling.
