Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs engine with new magnetron coil, new plug, (Part II), wire connector, kill switch

Question
Hello,

I'm continuing to work on a old non-running Briggs (
Model 100202, type 401020, serial 6205170) that has new parts (magnetron and plug but not even sparking)

Previously, an expert recommended checking the wires running to the kill switch for grounding. This machine really has no kill switch so they're not connected to the engine block or switch, just the magnetron. To be sure there wasn't some additional need for grounding I connected one of the wires to the block but still nothing. What else could be the issue? I'm pretty darn sure the magnetron is installed right side out.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Scott

Answer
Scott,

When you say Magnetron, is this the complete armature assy or did you just put the little plastic module on your existing coil to convert it from point and condenser?  Get back to me and I can help you further.

If it is the complete assembly make sure that the coil is installed properly.  (wire connector towards the cylinder fins)  Make sure you have it gapped properly (a business card works great)

Remove the wire that is plugged into the coil then try and see if you have spark.
