Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Gas pouring out air filter?, starter rope, engine 143

Question
Hello,
I inherited (now I know why) a Crafrtsman 6.0 lawnmower with a Tecumsah engine (143.986004) Carb is (640026 or TEC-64026A).  Fuel line was missing and breather line leading away from nylon elbow consisted of a 4 inch piece of fuel line plugged into nothing?  First I emoved float bowl and cleaned bowl and holding bolt. Then I ran a length of fuel line from tank outlet to the metal intet just above primer bulb on carb body. I put some gas in the tank and pulled the starter rope a couple times and gas came pouring out the air cleaner? Can you please help me troubleshoot this issue.
Thanks,
Ken

FLOAT COULD HAVE HOLE IN AS WELL  ?

TRY RESETIING FLOAT LEVEL IF ITS ADJUSTABLE
