Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Southern States Tiller SOR550, rear tine tiller, wheel bearing grease

Question
Hi John,
I have enjoyed reading many of your answers.  I have a specific question related to a rear tine tiller model number 96092000301.  I actually found this tiller on the side of the road and once I got the engine running found out that the drive is not working.  I disassembled the entire thing and found what I had suspected that the drive chain was broken, also the gear on the shaft has some teeth that have been damaged.  So that leads me to my question, once I replace the drive gear shaft, the chain and a new gasket how do you suggest loading it with grease?  and what type?  There is a grease fitting at the top of the transmission, do you suggest just filling it from there once I close it up, or would it be a good idea to pack some grease around the gears before closing it up and then topping it off from the grease fitting?  Any idea on what would cause that chain to break?

>>The Chain is Supposed to Break before Damage is done to the Gears of this Unit.
>>Apparently the Chain did Break, but Gear Damage still Occurred.
>>I Use Waterproof Wheel Bearing Grease for these Type of Units and 80W90 Gear Oil for the Oil Style Units.
